Urzah are a doom-infused progressive metal band hailing from Bristol, UK.

A convergence of expansive, complex rhythms with heavy riff-laden passages make the 4-piece a sincere and diligent act in the metal music scene.

The band was founded in late 2020 and consist of;

Tom McElveen (Guitar)
Ed Fairman (Vocals/Guitar)
James Brown (Drums)
Les Grodek (Bass)

First emerging with their promising 2020 self-titled demo, the band merges thick, stoner-laden riffs with catchy and thrashy, heavy doom-infused psychedelia.

Their second record, titled ‘II’, was recorded and released in early 2022, leaning more towards the progressive, heavier side of their creativity. The record received rave reviews, and was featured on Doom Charts ‘Best EPs of 2022’, and Stoner Johnny’s end of year list of ‘Best EPs of 2022’.

‘Where Is Your Sun?/Bloodrite’, the first track from ‘II’, is a perfect example of Urzah’s post-metal artistry, interweaving gratifying grooves, monstrous riffs and interesting passages of composition.

The first single from the record, titled ‘Greedbather’, showcased an integration of doom/crust and has been played numerous times through streaming sites. Alex Baker featured the single on his New Blood / Kerrang! Radio show, and cited;

On only their second live show, Urzah were invited to support the mighty Bongzilla at The Thekla, Bristol, and have continued to support metal heavyweight acts such as Tuskar, Grave Lines, Ohhms, Famyne and more.

In mid-2023, Urzah announced their involvement for the Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses, and have competed against nationwide bands for a place to play at the prestigious Bloodstock Open Air Festival for 2023 – the UK’s biggest independent metal festival. The band have made it through as finalists — and are continuing their journey — in the hope that they will join Meshuggah, Killswitch Engage, Sepultura and Megadeth amongst others.

Urzah have been featured on prolific metal editorials, blogs, podcasts and radio, such as Kerrang! Radio, More Fuzz, Hour of the Riff, Stormbringer, Metal Storm, Weedian, Doomed & Stoned and more.

2023 and onwards sees Urzah continuing their live experience, and continuing to craft genre-expanding music.

The band are due to enter the studio with Studio in October 2023 with Josh Gallop (Phoxjaw, Sergeant Thunderhoof) at Stage 2 Studios to record their first full-length record, pushing their progressive metal to new limits.
